My First Blog and Baby Shower

To start this blog, I thought about going all the way back to some of my first baked goods.  Then I had some trouble deciding where to start, so instead, I have decided to just start with my most recent baking (and Pinterest) adventure.

Last Saturday I got the chance to celebrate with my cousin the joy of a new baby coming into our family.  She is just 3 weeks away from her due date and is expecting a baby girl!  I am rather excited and was also very excited for the chance to make a cake for her shower.  Initially when I started thinking about a cake I had visions of little pink elephants and ducks.  Then my boyfriend, and baking assistant, suggested I make a baby bump.  That was all I needed to be inspired.

Here is my final creation:
(Sorry my camera isn't that great)

Now I got a lot of questions as to how I made the shape.  I used two cupcakes for the chest and then I baked the belly in a metal bowl that I have.  I did not use a heating core and had no issues with cooking it through.  The only suggestion I would make is really coat the bowl with a non stick spray or grease/lard.  I had some difficulty getting the belly out of the bowl, but this was not a problem given that I was covering it with butter cream and then fondant.  Now the cake was nothing special, I must admit it was short notice so I made box cake. The best part of this cake was the buttercream icing.  I used Nutella Buttercream, it is by far my favourite and I would say a crowd favourite as well.  Anybody who loves chocolate, and doesn't have a nut allergy, will LOVE this icing.

To add a special something to her gift, I also got inspired by Pinterest and created Onesie cupcakes.  The link online made it seem like the onesies fit better into the cupcake papers (which they did not for me) but they still fit nicely into a box and looked very cute!

Take a look!

Well, that's all I have to share today, hopefully you will enjoy this blog and some of my baking creations!
